Inspired by everyday materials, NLXL design creates modern, luxury wallpaper designs for your home and commercial space. Many of the inspirational materials are extremely beautiful yet expensive and space consuming if you were to apply the real material (such as concrete) to your walls.
The Brooklyn Tin Collection by NLXL has been created by prestigious designer ‘Merci.’ The inspiration behind the Brooklyn Tin Wallpaper Collection originated from Merci’s retail project that consisted of numerous cafes and restaurants all of which he designed with vintage ceiling tins for a décor concept for the Parisien store. The ceiling became so popular amongst the public, Merci progressed to get in touch with NLXL to design and market a wallpaper collection based on the real tinned ceiling designs. Historically tin ceilings were used in North America as an affordable alternative to plasterwork used in European homes. Tin ceilings soon became a trend between the 1890’s and 1930’s resulting in numerous colourways, patterns and overall textured designs ranging from floral to crisscross square patterns. Today the irregularity and the ageing give all the appeal to this American architecture icon.
NLXL Founder Rick Vintage has a background in interior design. In 2005 he imported pressed tin plates for a restaurant project in the Netherlands so was extremely forthcoming when designer Merci approached him to collaborate on a line of luxury wallpapers based on this classic tin design.
