Illusion is a range of woven tea towels with graphical motifs, inspired by optical illusions. In their design, the Danish designer Anne Lehmann has experimented with geometric shapes and the contrast between the front and back. Elements that are often found on classic tea towels have been re-interpreted in order to create an up-to-date and fashionable look.
The Illusion family consists of five motifs, all built on broken shapes. This creates surprising patterns, each with their own expression that tricks the eye in different ways. The graphic design is based on geometric shapes and lines, such as grids, pixels, circles, rectangles and checks.
Anne Lehmann tells us: "The idea for the tea towels came from a desire to use weaving techniques to create new patterns. I wanted to add an extra dimension to the design by creating attractive graphical patterns that add a new dynamic to a product that is often quite plain. This weaving is perfect for that purpose because it lets you achieve a different expression on the reverse side, even though the pattern is the same."
Illusion is made from 100% thick and hard-wearing cotton. Each of the five motifs comes in two inviting colour versions, and as the colours are reversed on the back, it is easy to change the appearance of the tea towel, depending which side faces outward.
