Design House Stockholm started out life as a Scandinavian product design company, founded by Anders Färdig in 1992. Through Anders’s broad knowledge within the product design industry, he used his resources and contacts to create a network of experienced and influential designers who he knew from his past posts with other well-known designer brands. A few years down the line Design House Stockholm decided to create and commission their own range of luxury home furnishing products, which were launched in 1997.
The first designer home furnishing product to be launched in their new collection was the Block Table Lamp, designed by Harri Koskinen. The Block Table Lamp is still a very popular product 18 years on as its design is unique and timeless. This wonderful contemporary lamp is available at Naken Interiors.
The way in which Design House Stockolm design and create modern products is very different to many other brands. They distinguish themselves as ‘A Publisher of Design’ and they work in a similar manor to how publishing houses work with book authors; instead of one single designer, creates a specific product, all of their designers will be invited to put forward their ideas for the design of a product. Some of the ideas are picked, and then a product is created from the selected ideas. Design House Stockholm creates a broad selection of modern home furnishing products ranging from Lighting, Furniture, Pendant Lights, Table Lamps, Floor Lamps, Rugs, Side Tables and many other luxury home furnishings, all of which are designed using the same process.
You could certainly class Design House Stockholm’s products as high-end Scandinavian design as their products are of a very high quality. Their design and craftsmanship are built to last and are amongst the very best of Scandinavian products.
Some of our favourites of their contemporary, timeless products are; The Tablo Tray Table, Timo Tumbler and The Work Pendants in Gold.
